Overview
The Wayne Police Department is staffed with five full-time dispatchers and one part-time dispatcher.  The dispatch center is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Our dispatch center dispatches for:


The dispatch center is also the after hours answering point for Haven House.

Responsibilities
Dispatchers are responsible for not only dispatching law enforcement and fire department resources, and answering 911 calls, but also assist the municipal utilities department with billing, handle Salvation Army requests, issue dog, cat and bicycle licenses, issue burn permits on behalf of the fire department, process all parking citations, handle after-hours call outs for the municipal electric, street, and water departments, operate the NCIS/NCIC national law enforcement computer system, including the entering and verification of arrest warrants and protection orders. 

Additionally, dispatchers constantly monitor our weather conditions.  Dispatchers call out weather spotters and activate warning sirens, when necessary.  Dispatchers are also involved in transcribing recorded statements and writing up reports, as well as being responsible for entering and maintaining a majority of the data in the Computer Aided Dispatch computer system.
