Household Hazardous Waste
2018 Household Hazardous Waste Collection

How Successful was our Household Hazardous Waste Event in 2018?
Thank you to our community for great support at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event held on April 27, 2018. In just two hours, this event served more than 100 households and collected the following Household Hazardous Wastes:

  • Pesticides: 460 pounds
  • Paint: 2,180 pounds
  • Oil: 9 gallons
  • Antifreeze: 6 gallons
  • Fluorescent light bulbs: 344
  • Other recyclable material: 280 pounds

Thank you to our partners!
The Wayne Green Team thanks Northeast Nebraska Resource Conservation & Development for choosing Wayne to host this event twice in two years. We also thank the Nebraska Environmental Trust for providing funding and Gill Hauling for its support during the event at the Wayne Transfer Station. With committed partners like these in our community, we will reach our goal of Zero Waste in Wayne.

Why should I bring in my HHW instead of throwing it in the landfill?
Household hazardous waste is hazardous. The items above contain chemicals that should not be poured down our drains or thrown into our landfill, where the toxins can then contaminate our water and soil. It is difficult to properly dispose of these items so save them while you can until the next HHW collection event.

When is the next HHW event?
Our next HHW Event in Wayne will likely be in 2-3 years, but we know the NE Nebraska RC&D hosts these events in neighboring towns every year. Check back again for news on the next local HHW and save your items until then. Thank you!

Where else can I take electronics, paint, light bulbs, or CFLs (must not be broken)?
Outside of special collections in Wayne or neighboring towns, you can take electronics to Nebraska Electronics Recycling in Norfolk and paint, light bulbs, or CFLs to the Norfolk Transfer Station. Be sure to call ahead first to confirm acceptability, business hours and any fees.
