[ARCHIVED] Sewer Main Cleaning - Put a lid on it!

During the weeks of June 4th and 11th, 2012, the City of Wayne will be having sewer mains cleaned in various parts of the city. Included in this will be the area between Nebraska Street and Providence Road on the east side of Wayne and the areas of Oak Drive, the Knolls and Grainland Road on the west side of Wayne. Other areas may be done as well.

In this process, high pressure water is forced through the city's sewer mains to clean them out. On rare occasions, this process causes air to enter private sewer service lines. If this happens, the air can push through the toilet bowl resulting in the water being splashed onto the floor. Should this occur, keeping the lid closed on the toilet during this time will keep most of the water in the bowl rather than on the floor.

If this happens at your home or business, it generally means there is improper venting and a plumber should be called to investigate. If you have questions about this, call Garry Poutre, Superintendent of Public Works and Utilities at (402) 375-2896.
