The first treatment unit at the plant is the influent structure, which receives the combined flows from the two lift stations. The influent structure contains a flow measurement device, communitor, and a bypass bar screen.
The purpose of the communitor is to cut the coarse sewage solids, such as trash, rags, and other large debris, into smaller particles that are easier to treat. Should the comminutor have to be taken out of service, the bar screen can be used to temporarily catch larger, stringy material.
