The LB 840 Sales Tax Advisory Committee are responsible for reviewing applications to the LB840 plan and making recommendations to the City Council.
The LB840 plan (Local Option Economic Development Plan) was passed by the Nebraska Legislature in 1991 and authorizes incorporated cities and villages to collect and appropriate sales tax dollars, if approved by the local voters, for economic development purposes. The purposes and goals are to create new jobs/generate employment opportunities, expand labor markets, expand retail opportunities, and increase households in the City of Wayne and Wayne County; attract new capital investment to the community, and establish stability and vitality for the community of Wayne and the surrounding area.
Members of this committee are appointed by the mayor and approved by the city council and terms are four years in length.
